Kota Kinabalu: The National Registration Department (NRD) said it detected some "flaws" in the blue Identity Card of Yong Lee Hua, from Penampang, issued by the Department in 1996, which prompted the issuance of a red Identity Card meant for Permanent Resident status.
Its public relations officer Janisah Mohd Noor said in a statement this was found out after scrutinising the document of the holder. She did not elaborate.
In this respect, Sabah NRD would conduct a thorough investigation into the case and the complainant would be informed in due course, she said. The department was responding to a report on the status of a Sabahan being changed to that of a permanent resident after she sought a replacement of her lost MyKad.
Yong claimed that her MyKad was lost after a pickpocket took away her purse while shopping at Penampang Baru.
Consequently, she was issued an identity card meant for Permanent Residence status. Upko deputy president Datuk Wilfred Bumburing said the party would be seeking an explanation from the Sabah NRD Director.
