BN Is Still A Strong Coalition, Says Musa Aman

BN Is Still A Strong Coalition, Says Musa Aman
KOTA KINABALU, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Unity within the Barisan Nasional (BN) is still strong, despite one party leaving it, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said today.

Although some leaders of other component parties had voiced their opinions of the governments services in public, they remained strong with BN, he said .

"The only party that is no longer with us is the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP). But even though they have left BN, some of the partys leaders and members still want to be with BN. This is a good indication.

"That is why their deputy president, Datuk Raymond Tan (who is deputy chief minister) is still in the state cabinet because he has said that he does not agree with his party president," Musa told reporters during his inspection of the state cabinets Aidilfitri open house preparation at the Likas Sports Complex near here.

Musa, who is also state BN chairman, was asked to comment on whether the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) would also leave BN after threatening to review its position in the coalition.

The bold statement by its deputy president, Datuk Wilfred Bumburing, was made last week after it was unhappy with the National Registration Department for issuing a red identity card (IC) as a replacement to a 78-year-old local woman who had lost her blue IC.

The red IC indicates the the holder is a permanent resident of the country instead of a national citizen.

Musa gave an assurance that the woman's case would be looked into.

The state open house, to be held from 11am to 3pm on the first day of Aidilfitri, is expected to draw a crowd of more than 10,000.

"We hope everybody, near and far, can come to celebrate Aidilfitri. The more the merrier. We are very fortunate that we can do this not just with the Muslim people, but also with those of different races, religion sand cultures," he said.
